This piece was created out of imagination, reality and old photographs of The Point Bolivar Lighthouse when it was functioning. 1872-1933. At the peak of the Great Depression, the Bolivar Point lighthouse was declared obsolete and extinguished on May 29, 1933. The light shined for 60 years except 2 nights during the 1915 storm that destroyed the oil house. During the 1915 storm the light house provided refuge for 60 people. They sat 2 per step, while 11 foot storm surge broke the door down and flooded the bottom the the tower. The light house keeper manually turned the light until the oil totally drained out.
