“Instead of a typical ‘inspired’ creator, I wanted to show the melancholy and struggle of The Inventress, as well as her fantasies. This piece is partly based on The Tales of Hoffman, a series of 19th century macabre fairy tales in which there often exists a tension between imagination and reason. The interwoven narratives of the stories follow the tormented and magical journeys of characters who meet strange inventors or magicians. Lastly, this piece is also a bit of a portrait of my creative process, in which my intellectual side battles my imagination, and where ideas come in droves, although often half-formulated and fragmented.”
