The found roots, rocks, sticks and mementos are rare one of kind materials shaped by natural forces hiding an image or meaning within them.
Mother and Child, convey the emotion of letting go while hanging on.
While in nature, the root cradled the quartz rock, protecting it from harm even after it was ripped from the earth. The old twine will help keep them together over time, yet the twine and root will disappear, but the stone will survive on its own long after.
The use of materials, organic morphing, irregular surfaces and rhythmic movements are inspired by the sculptures of the French artist Auguste Rodin 1840-1917, primarily The Call to Arms at the Legion of Honor, The Kiss, and The Thinker.
