This trompe l'oeil, fool the eye sculpture, ‘Lost Not Forgotten’, by Gina M., made of high-fired ceramic and iron oxide glaze washes, simulates worn fabric, fur, and button eyes and exudes real coconut hair stuffing. What look like three bears flopping and tumbling at play are really three raggedy old worn out stuffed toy bears lost or left by their owner, now in differing stages of decomposition.
Statement:
‘Lost Not Forgotten’, possesses a surface innocence and non-threatening nature, to draw the viewer in, whereby a deeper meaning or message emerges. I take whimsical, iconic images from my childhood and turn them into lost objects, misplaced opportunities, and distant memories. I’m recording the significance of memory and mortality while self-reflecting on the aging process and the image-altering effects of gravity.
