I'd always wanted to witness the Aurora Borealis, and when I was selected for this residency, I flew out for a research trip to ensure I'd have the right supplies when I actually came later that same Spring. My first night, my local guide took me out to witness the Aurora. I didnt have my paints with me, and I was so frustrated but I took many, many reference photos - and I was able to complete this painting when I did return, and it inspired the entire series of sky studies that i made from this same viewpoint.
