Collection of Stephen Nachmanovitch: Ivy, Virginia, gifted (2003)

When Gilah begun the underpainting for Alembic, in 1981, she had no idea the tremendous lineage that would follow.
The underpainting was carefully constructed, but never completed its journey to becoming "Alembic." Rather, Gilah would paint "Henge," a magnificent oil painting with mild hints of its history as Alembic's precursor.
Gilah would turn the canvas on its side, painting horizontally against the vertical-oriented underpainting.
Ultimately, 16 years later, "Alembic" would get a second chance at life, as a new canvas picked up where Henge left off.
Some years later, the original underpainting for Henge, which was titled "Alembic," was uploaded to Artwork Archive, the mainstage for Gilah's archived work. This mishap would kick off a wild adventure of relocating both Alembic--(the later, complete version) which was found in Gilah's storage--and Henge, which was long lost in Stephen Nachmanovitch's possesion.
