"Jeanne d'Arc"
At the battle of Orleans in May 1429, Joan led French
troops to a miraculous victory over the English.
But in1430 she was captured by the Burgundians,
who sold her to the English,
who handed her over to the ecclesiastical court at Rouen
where she was tried for witchcraft and heresy,
was convicted and burned at the stake.
In 1456 a second trial was held where she was pronounced
innocent and in 1920 canonized by Pope Benedict XV.
