At a time when we can carry just about every song ever recorded around with us on our smart phones, there was a time when you not only owned the record, but you had to sit next to it to enjoy it! Sometimes I think this resulted in a closer connection with the music as there was fewer outside distractions - it was just you and the music. The title was taken from the 1981 Cliff Richard song - ‘Wired For Sound’ (I remember the video clip shows him rollerskating around with headphones on, listening to a walkman - very cheesy!). But I like to imagine this little boy is hearing something a bit edgier like Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd for the first time - hence the ‘wired’ look on his face.
This piece is a new iteration of an older stencil. The background was created by layering impasto paint, combined with spray paint using lace and various other patterns. This was then overlaid with spray paint using the hand cut stencil.
