2nd Place - Art Center Manatee
August 14, 1888
The warm breeze carries whispers through the streets of Sag Harbor, as if the very air has learned our truth. My heart beats in tandem with the rhythmic creaking of bicycle wheels, a steady cadence that has come to symbolize both our liberation and our vulnerability. With each passing day, I feel the gaze of the townsfolk lingering a moment too long upon my partner and me, as we tend to the quaint bike shop we have built together. Our hands touch in brief, sending electric currents of equal parts affection and trepidation down my spine. We have woven our lives intricately, like the spokes of a wheel, yet the knowledge of our secret existence dangles precariously in the air. How much longer can we keep our true selves concealed beneath the veneer of this modest coastal town? The wind carries both the scent of the sea and the scent of change, and I fear the winds of change may soon blow our fragile world apart.
