The urban landscape of Detroit is a study of underappreciated beauty. Many years ago, I lived in the Cass corridor and never imagined that I would fall so hard for the cityscape. I drove around taking photos of mothballed water towers, forgotten power stations, and underappreciated industrial buildings with gorgeous color-stained windows. I was moved by the architecture and found peace meandering through barren streets. The buildings were my urban cathedrals and I used to worship them. While in Detroit, I created a series of paintings and relief prints celebrating my love of the city. I now live in Seattle and feel the pull of an urban cathedral pilgrimage. This mixed media study is an homage to the city that was my muse. I specifically used a photo, and remnants of artwork (pastel sketch, and mini-lino studies) from the time lived there, keeping true to the spirit of use and re-use.
