Gallery 110
Seattle, WA
A nonprofit, artist-run Seattle collective that empowers emerging/established artists through curated exhibitions, public programs, and collaborative projects.
MessageThis sculpture is composed of 200 stems of wildflowers created with wire and glass beads. The sculpture is in the form of a young child holding the American flag. It is dedicated to the Dreamers who, like the artist, came to the US when they were children. The artist, who became a naturalized US citizen in her 30s had pledged allegiance to the American flag everyday in class from kindergarten through high school. How can someone who has said the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag so many times before adulthood be considered illegal or non-American?
The proceeds from the sale of this sculpture will be donated to a non-profit to help the Dreamers with DACA and to support new legislation that will provide Dreamers a direct path to US citizenship. Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) will be the first non-profit to receive the proceeds.
