Adjoining the Lake by Kyle Smeaton Image: Summer brings forth warmth and community, along with a healthy dose of nostalgia and introspection. My photography attempts to capture the feeling of calm that comes along with remembering carefree days of childhood. In the summer, we children had no school to attend and so could play in the water, join a pickup basketball game, or swing as high as we could on the swing set at the local park. Those are the peaceful days I want the viewer to remember.

I prefer minimalism to covey this contemplative feeling - I want the viewer to be drawn into the image, and then further drawn into and lost in the warm memories of days past, instead of endlessly exploring the photo. In other words, I want the viewer to not just remember, but to feel the wonder of childhood again - and the image should not get in the way. It should provide enough visual real estate to explore, but stop short of making to bold a statement itself.
