Galerie LJ presents the group exhibition “The Ballroom”, an ode to life and celebration! The conception of this exhibition was initially inspired by the grandiose decor and atmosphere of the Grand Salon Baroque of the Palazzo Valguarnera-Gangi (18th century) in Palermo, Sicily, known for having been used as a set in Visconti’s ball scene in Le Guépard (1963) with Alain Delon and Claudia Cardinale. Il Gattopardo (1958), the original novel by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, tells the story of the decline of the nobility and of the “cheetahs” (gattopardi), Palermo’s bourgeoisie in the nineteenth century, owners of these palaces, now more or less decayed, in the center of Palermo, whose former grandeur can be guessed.
Galerie LJ brings the era of the Gattopardi back to life and invites you to its baroque and flamboyant ball! Come and meet the guests of Swedish painter Heidi Ukkonen, taste the appetizing and juicy delicacies of German painter Mona Broschár, converse with the fantastic embroidered birds of Italian and Israeli designers, Parisians by adoption, Maurizio Galante & Tal Lancman, or plunge into the unusual decor of delicate ceramics of French artist Etienne Pottier.
The selection of design objects offered by Tools Galerie will complete the experience and dress our ballroom with Light Bulbs lamps by Pieke Bergmans, a Drag-in Drag-on tapestry by Christian Lacroix, the Clay Chair by Maarten Baas, a Nougat stool by Studio Högl Browski, and a barbed wire chandelier by Tove Adman.
