“FANCY FISH”, 1981 SIGNED ORIGINAL REDUCTION COLOR LINOCUT PRINT BY AMERICAN ARTIST AND PRINTMAKER KC (KACEY) JOYCE (b.1947)
This limited edition reduction color linocut print is pencil signed and dated by the artist in the margin below the image lower right: KC Joyce 1981.
Oregon artist Kacey Joyce, who has received praise from artist Pablo Picasso, is well known for her reduction color linocuts. Called “suicide prints” because the artist uses a single block rather than several, carving away at the linoleum block, color for color, from lightest to darkest, leaving no room for error. Pablo Picasso notably helped popularize the reduction linocut print method which allows artists to create multicolored prints from a single block.
The linocut is titled in pencil in the margin below the image lower center: “Fancy Fish”, and numbered in pencil in the margin below the image lower left: 2/15. The image size, printed on heavy white wove paper, measures 11 1/8 x 9 1/8 inches. The sheet with full margins measures 15 3/4 x 13 inches. The linocut comes unframed.
