“CINDERELLA” ORIGINAL PLATE SIGNED ETCHING BY BULGARIAN / FRENCH ARTIST AND PRINTMAKER JULES PASCIN (1885-1930)
This original soft ground etching, of Cinderella being fitted with the shoe as the two sisters look on, is signed in the plate by the artist lower right: Pascin. The title of this etching is “Cinderella”. It was created by Jules Pascin in 1929 for the illustrated book “Cendrillon” by Charles Perrault. The book contained five original Jules Pascin etchings, each published in an edition of only 88 impressions. The plates were then canceled by adding horizontal and vertical lines. This etching is one of the posthumous impressions (restrike) published from the original cancelled plate by the Collector’s Guild, New York after Pascin’s death, circa 1960s. The total number of the posthumous etchings published is unknown. The plate mark image size measures 13 5/8 x 9 7/8 inches, printed in black on cream wove paper, the sheet measures 18 x 13 7/8 inches. The etching comes unframed.
