In my work I am drawn to abstract categories of the human experience like isolation, guilt, connection and how they affect our sense of belonging. In “Power” more precisely, I am exploring the concept of hierarchy based on historic, gender or family structures as a source for disconnection, as well as - perplexingly, connection. The piece consists of two human figures whose inborn sameness is made obvious by the fabric, pattern and colour they equally share. All the more does their obvious imbalance feel unjust. There is a connection, but it is in suffering, and not only for the female victimized body. The sculpture is versatile and the two figures can be and should be arranged in different ways, some more disturbing than others. You will notice, that it is the male figure in power who cannot stand on his on! He needs the discriminated significant other to function uprightly. Misogyny, domestic violence and sexism are definitely a big area where humanity continues to fail itself big
