FLORA’S SOUL

Flora’s Soul is the most recent series by artist Gabriel Sánchez Viveros, composed of prints and paintings made with the natural pigment extracted from the flower of the Majagua tree (Hibiscus elatus) made on handmade amate paper (Ficus cotinifolia).
This body of work is a consequence of his previous work in which he reflected on the origin of things, ideas, life and consciousness of the human being. On this occasion Gabriel reflects on the moment when the first men were aware of their surroundings, nature and their emotions.
Hibiscus elatus symbolically represents union and lasting love, it is a tree that gives yellow flowers that in the afternoon change to orange or red, and that when they fall they become burgundy; It is a flower that represents the cycles of life. Gabriel extracts his pigment to capture human silhouettes, portraits and organic forms; but above all for Gabriel it is important to capture the ethereal, the finite soul of nature.
In the plastic experimentation that Gabriel lived to create this series, he found an endless number of significant elements ranging from the flower and its countless color variants to extract its pigment, to the handmade paper, and of course, the
time spent contemplating and observing nature

Flora’s Soul es la serie más reciente del artista Gabriel Sánchez Viveros, se compone de estampas y pinturas elaboradas con el pigmento natural extraído de la flor del árbol Majagua (Hibiscus elatus) hechas sobre papel amate (Ficus cotinifolia) artesanal.
Este cuerpo de obra es una consecuencia de su obra previa en la que reflexionó sobre el origen de las cosas, las ideas, la vida y la conciencia del ser humano. En esta ocasión Gabriel reflexiona en torno al momento en el que los primeros hombres fueron conscientes de su entorno, de la naturaleza y de sus emociones.
El Hibiscus elatus simbólicamente representa la unión y el amor duradero, es un árbol que da flores amarillas que en la tarde se cambian a color naranja o rojo, y que al caer se tornan borgoña; es una flor que representa los ciclos de la vida. Gabriel extrae su pigmento para plasmar siluetas humanas, retratos y formas orgánicas; pero sobre todo para Gabriel es importante plasmar lo etéreo, el alma finita de la naturaleza.
En la experimentación plástica que Gabriel vivió para crear esta serie, encontró un sin fin de elementos significantes que van desde la flor y sus incontables variantes de color al extraer su pigmento, hasta el papel hecho a mano, y por supuesto, el
tiempo dedicado a contemplar y observar a la naturaleza
