Young Artist

With this bronze figurative sculpture, artists Don Haugen and Teena Stern capture the youthful enthusiasm for creativity and expressiveness. The sculpture depicts a child walking to art class, carrying his art materials- a sketchpad, an easel, and paintbrushes. The boy is happy, confident in his abilities, and eager to learn. The figure itself was based on Don Haugen’s grandson who as a boy loved art. With that love in mind, Stern and Haugen created a sculpture meant to specifically convey joy, as described by the boy’s expression and gesture.

Following the sale of the Aberthany Art Center, the sculpture was relocated to Northside Library.
