A bridge can be thought of as something that connects two separate things, especially when it overcomes a barrier of some sort that impedes that connection, like a river that makes it difficult to travel from one bank to the other. The cast iron ovum within this sculpture is made of several curved forms and the gaps between them, bridged by 36 stainless bolts as connectors. The bench is made from I-beams that were salvaged and recycled from the remains of the old Rogers Bridge. The corner of this triangular bench points directly northeast, but also directs you to the front doors of the North East Spruill Oaks Library. Please rest and enjoy the seating provided by this sculpture, perhaps while you read a book.
