Artist Andrew T. Crawford developed the idea for On A Roll as a response to the architectural theme of the library; the forms found in agricultural structures. In a similar sense, the form of this fabricated steel sculpture is drawn from an old tractor that has left to rust in a field. The sculpture takes the essence of the form of a tractor and re-organizes it through gestural lines, making references to natural flow and movement. Other inspirations for On a Roll include hay bales and the effects of neglect and decay on mechanical objects.
