A bridge can be thought of as something that connects two separate things, especially when it overcomes a barrier of some sort that impedes that connection, like a river that makes it difficult to travel from one bank to the other. This sculpture is a pair of forms, each built around an I-beam that is salvaged and recycled from the remains of the old Rogers Bridge. The two forms resemble a king and queen from chess, standing a knightâs move apart from each other on an imagined chessboard. What moves are open to the queen? Or to the king? Neither is in immediate danger from the other, but both will have to be very careful on their next move to avoid stepping into danger. Or maybe they are on the same team, and this perceived danger is the barrier to their potential connection. Please rest and enjoy the seating provided by this pair of sculptures, perhaps while you read a book from the library.
