A bridge can be thought of as something that connects two separate things, especially when it overcomes a barrier of some sort that impedes that connection, like a river that makes it difficult to travel from one bank to the other. The undulating, fluid lines that arc overhead between these two hands turn the relationship upside down, representing a bridge of water. The flowing lines are made from some of the tension rods that were salvaged and recycled from the remains of the old Rogers Bridge.
Water connects us – all people, and all other living creatures on this planet, need water to survive. The Bridge of Water between these two sculptural hands represents this connection, and a hospitable sharing of water. It is our responsibility to use water carefully, to be good stewards of the water that is on our planet whenever it passes through our hands. The people at the Johns Creek Environmental Campus make sure that the water that leaves this site is better for us, and healthier to drink, than when it came in.
