Painted from drawings that were done from memory and imagination, this piece "Bar Shadows" was one of the first of the Monolith Series to have incongruous geometric forms superimposed over the composition. These mysterious floating bars are meant to upend the viewer's sense that what's being portrayed is simply a rendered scene of reality.
At the same time, these odd bar shapes are interacting realistically within the scene by casting shadows down across the contours of two rocks, which are seemingly resting silently at the bottom of the sea.
