A taste of Seafood Surrealism... This oil painting presents a somewhat illogical quartet of suspended California Blue Mussel shells, with their mixed shadows creating puzzle patterns on the seafloor below. The odd positioning adds a mysterious aspect to the simple composition. The view seems to have frozen time, so that we may take our time observing the variety of contours, colors and textures described by the brushwork.

The artist has borrowed freely from the Surrealists for this series, while adding a more modern design and painterly approach. A strong sense of shape and his characteristic focus on drawing also enhance the impact of a subtle concept.
