On the Road to Giverny was inspired by a long walk in the rain from the Vernon train station to Giverny, Claude Monet’s home. Wright was energized by the vivid, saturated color of the landscape--such as the mustard fields--from the recent shower. (The artist’s daughter remembers being very wet.)
