Seattle has two Canine Explosive Detection Teams (CEDT), whose primary local mission involves ensuring the safety and security of the largest ferry system in North America, the Washington State Ferry System. Additionally, CEDTs are deployable assets that may be called upon to provide explosive detection support to other government agencies for national security events. The canines and their handlers go through extensive training with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Upon completion, the training continues as the canines are acclimated to the marine environment. You can see K9 Debbie being hoisted down from a moving ferry to the Coast Guard small boat below.
