Apples are a beautiful part of the Fall season in New Jersey. Apple picking has become a yearly part of my art practice and inspires these paintings. Painted on a mix of purples, blues and greens, these red apples seem to exist in their own space.
About the Apples and Temptation series: Apples have been used to symbolize evil and temptation throughout our history. Often women are depicted as the cause of that temptation. Although I’ve never agreed with these metaphors, the deeper I look, the more I see that the contradictions are endless. I study how these stories still continue to influence how we think and act. I play with the leaves and exposure of the apples to examine these myths.
