Atlanta, GA: Button Art.org Installation (2021)
Spring Hall Event Venue
This public art installation was created in partnership with Button Art.org, a public art initiative in Gwinnett County. For this project, I submitted several designs to a jury committee. Once a design was chosen, Button Art.org managed the logistics of recreating my art on the button structure and supervised its installation.
This art installation is located outside the Spring Hall Event Center at 7130 Buford Hwy in Atlanta.
This mural is approximately 4 x 4 square feet.
More about the original artwork:
I have always admired birds as symbols of freedom and creativity. They have been my muse for many years and often make an appearance in paintings where they are not the primary focus. Birds have been imbued with symbolism throughout human history, touching many people in a wide variety of ways ranging from inspiration to foreboding.
I have always felt it is a tragedy to see birds caged and depict them in both caged and free form as a means of telling a larger story or drawing a parallel to human existence. In my new portrait series, they accompany empowered women as symbols of freedom, wisdom, overcoming adversity, and harbingers of future challenges.
My formal training is in the field of illustration. I am a self-taught painter. The story I tell is my art.
