Final Frontier - surrealist paintings by James Walker Henry
Fort Madison Area Arts Association (FMAAA) is delighted to host work by surrealist painter, James Walker Henry of Burlington, Iowa in our Main Gallery during the month of July. The exhibit Opening is Friday, July 9, 2021 from 5:00 – 7:00pm. Don’t let Henry’s local roots fool you! This world-class artist has created over 1,000 works of art and appears in permanent collections at major institutions in the United States, but also in Ireland, Holland, Germany, Brazil, France, England, and South Korea. FMAAA is located at 825 Ave G in Fort Madison, Iowa and is open 10am until 5pm Tuesday through Saturday. We thank Climax Molydenum for sponsoring this month’s exhibit.
Henry documents social and political issues through his paint and brush. He developed his own surrealistic style while attending Southeastern Community College, but his ability to create as an artist was his own and has been mainly self-taught. He believes his greatest influence was work by the painting master Salvador Dali. Henry states that he, “took up Dali’s surrealist eye and updated the content with that of today” so the viewer can understand issues of a modern society. No matter your perspective, Henry’s work is a feast of recognizable imagery to wander through and enjoy. Among the representations there-in, look for the rhino…there is one worked into every painting.
James Walker Henry’s works of art have been featured in numerous art publications including Manhattan Arts, Surreal Magazine and New Art Examiner. He has been in over three hundred art exhibitions (seventy-five of them solo exhibits) and has been mentioned in over ninety newspaper articles.
