4K (UHD) video w/ sound + text animation.
Represented in this video are the first scenes in the “every.single.one” performance: discovering the lump, a misdiagnosis, followed by the correct diagnosis. The first segment portraying a frenetic self-exam is projected large-scale on stage accompanied by live action. Appearing next is an improvisational dance (documented from a 2019 production at the University of Missouri Theater) that corresponds with a subsequent in which I question the nurse practitioner having told me that the lump was part of my “rib bone” Finally, I receive the correct diagnosis. The text transcribing a recording of the phone call I had with the radiologist informing me of the cancer is also part of the project design of the performance.
Video production, post-production & performance: Cherie Sampson
Movement direction: Anjali Tata-Hudson
Music by Charles Gran with Xin Gao, saxophone.
