Artist: Jean Blackwell Font || Named after the song by David Bowie, this assemblage mixed media artwork expresses the shift in power that occurred between the 1950's and 1960's in the US. As the fight for equal rights began (and continues!), women felt empowered to take on new challenges and express themselves in new and exciting ways. Traditions were broken and women found strength in beautiful new ways. The artwork was first displayed as part of the exhibition 19: Celebrating 100 years of Women’s Right to Vote at Florida International University Green Library.
Objects include images from vintage magazines, vintage jewelry, broken ceramic plates, acrylic paint, marker, and glue. Housed in a shadow box.
