Zanesville, Ohio was once known as the Pottery Capital of the World, and many pottery companies operated there in the early 1900s, including Zanesville Stoneware. These companies were part of the Arts and Crafts movement and used mass production methods to create quality art pottery at affordable prices. The intense competition between these companies led to innovations in design and glaze. By the 1950s, Zanesville potteries had created over 400 lines of art pottery that are still valued today.
