Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997) is one of the most well-known representatives of the illustrious Swedish ceramic design of the 20th century. He was the artistic leader and designed many classics for the Swedish ceramic factory Rörstrand in the 1940s and 1950s. One of the most well-known series is Alpina from 1965. It consists of stoneware bowls and vases. They have a robust form and mottled blue/gray glaze.

This particular piece is part of the Alpina series. Nylund pieces are marked on the lower side with Rörstrand’s symbol (R), GN, Sweden, and the model number. They share models with the Birka (brown/yellow glaze) and Rubus (blue/brown glaze) series.
