Zsolnay has been associated with uniqueness, artistic quality, and innovation for 170 years. The handpainted products are made in Pécs, Hungary. The Ribbon-Ear vase form was originated in 1898.
In 1893 Vilmos Zsolnay introduced Eosin, a rich, iridescent glazing technique. The term, named after the Greek goddess Eos, goddess of dawn, was used to describe this unique finish. This technique is a well-kept secret of the manufacture and became a trademark of Zsolnay and a favorite of art nouveau artists. The secret Eosin technique creates iridescent metallic colours to every piece and unrepeatable.
