A cast iron urn labeled Abendroth NY. Urns bearing manufacturers labels do not appear frequently. Abendroth Bros. were located at 109 Beekeman Street in 1873.
William, Augustus, and John Abendroth were German immigrants who owned the eponymous firm. Beginning in 1841, the brothers ran a well-managed factory producing stoves and plumbers’ castings, among other wares. They operated a portion of their business under the name Eagle Iron and Stove Works, which, presumably, manufactured stoves. They maintained their foundry in Portchester, New York. The firm was in business until 1925.
