Hand knit utilizing a flatbed knit machine creating a three dimensional dual color knit textile ‘beak’. The entire shape is made through hand manipulating stitches while knitting, it does not involve any sewing or construction post knitting. Protruding from the portal an explosion of colorful knit texture tubes suggesting a whimsical, otherworldly place lay beyond. The knit is stretched to evoke an animal hide juxtaposing the physical softness of knit textiles against the grotesque nature of a stretched animal hide, while also hinting at the earliest type of textile.
Metal frame fabricated by Mack Marbas.
