As a part of a series study, in the second of two portraits, the viewer is again transported through time via the feeling in subject's gaze. Imbued with old Hawai'i soul, within her eyes is a "portal" to a time when Hawai'i was subject to great turmoil and change. In the late 1800's and around the turn of the 20th century, when cameras emerged to capture images of Hawai'i, Hawai'i's people were faced with westernization catching powerful momentum in the homelands. Old photos used for references in the "Through Hawai'ian Eyes" series were perhaps powerfully imbued with the Hawai'ian tenacity of spirit to transcend and challenge all adversity caused by colonial construct.
