When I was invited by Jessica Wheelahan to consider her quilts for a painting, I jumped at the chance. Jessica contacted me from Instagram - where her handle is, appropriately enough, @birdie_beetle. Her work is intricate, involves clever concepts and is beautifully coloured. The Powerhouse Museum recently acquired her MMXX Quilt, which references the COVID epidemic. Here, I have used one of Jessica's chairs, recoloured to blue for my mother maggpie.
