Lyell Canyon is an especially beautiful, with Lyell Creek slowing and meandering in a green green way. I have, on occasion, started my JMT hike at Toulumne Meadows instead of Happy Isles. It’s a great way to start, six miles of nearly level walking up a gentle canyon, and the water is the most extraordinary color, begging to be jumped into, oh but the water is so cold!
