Nestled up against the rugged Silver Divide, the very deep Chief Lake is often bluer than blue. Most thru-hikers power right past this place, eager to resupply at Vermillion. I like to stop and stay. Even after many days on the trail, fresh food doesn't ever seem as important to me as stopping and gazing at this lake.
