Been working on a large painting to show in SOMArts Cultural Center Dia de los Muertos event. Whew, it was a big-un (for me at least) - 4' wide by 3' tall. Had to take breaks in between painting to rest my post transplant body. Title is RED LIPSTICK AND LIFE. Here is my explanation that will be posted with it at Somarts.
"Red Lipstick and Life
or How to Live Life while Fighting Leukemia”
A survivor’s guide to living each day fully.
A life threatening disease brings you closer to the reality of death at your doorstep. Longevity does not apply to all. Your choices therefore are to give in to the sadness and unfairness of your life journey or rebound and find the gratitude for the bounties you have in your life.
My family, friends are a life force within me who keep me grounded and feeling loved. My love bug, Chip the dog, gives me unconditional love whenever I need it. My home provides an environment where love soars, sings and sunshine flows. The wonders of nature, a hummingbird, the warmth of the sun, the light of the moon, and beautiful flowers all add to my delight in living each day.
Expressing myself through painting has also added so much satisfaction to my life. Finally, on days when I can go out into the world, painting my lips with red lipstick gives me just the lift I need to face all the wonders of life and makes me happy to face another day."
