About the Artist: Jaxon Ovalle
Operation Iraqi Freedom
As an artist, I create artwork that speaks about both the hardship and the struggles of a Veteran. Part of my process is to go out into the streets and talk to the veterans who are homeless or who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and listen to their stories of being in the military, the war, returning home, and the Art Detail aftermath. I do not merely want to capture the veteran, but the sufferings that lead up to being homeless. I try with every ounce to depict their struggles and bring it to life. The challenge, as with any recreated moment from the past, is to not leave the veteran feeling broken after our talk but to leave them with peace and knowing their stories along with mine will be told and bring awareness not only the homeless but all veterans who are suffering.
