Lainard Bush creates his grid-based art through repetitive masking, painting, unmasking, and layering of many colorful brushstrokes. The surface of the canvas is built up, sanded down, and then painted again. The process is repeated many times. Eventually all the masking is removed, and a complex geometric and abstract composition is revealed.
Born in Northeast Ohio, Bush earned his BFA Magna Cum Laude from Kent State University and his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. He has been a professional artist for over three decades. Initially, Bush began his career as a filmmaker, but felt his passion was in painting. His artwork is held in corporate, permanent, and private collections across the United States.
