Artist: Joyce Perowicz (b. 1946)
Joyce Perowicz has created art for most of her life and has contributed to art collections in Erie, Pennsylvania for several decades. Though she began painting in watercolors, she explored creating with soft pastels, oil pastels, acrylics, and oils, and developed a preference for oil paints. Perowicz paints both realistically and abstractly, with the intention to produce a painting using the classic elements of drawing, accurate lighting, and correct perspective. Her work has been influenced by the Impressionist Painters’ use of color and light.
Perowicz attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania to study art. She was an elementary art teacher and has extended her teaching to Mercy Hilltop Center, offering classes to Erie’s senior community.
A member of the Northwestern Pennsylvania Artists Association, the artist enjoys using Presque Isle State Park in Erie as an inspiration noting the beautiful skies, beaches, water and shadows.
