Heather Kanazawa paints memories. Mostly abstract, her artwork layers oil paint and wax, with bits of vintage fabric, in colorful and visually kinetic compositions. Kanazawa’s work is a physical recording of colors, textures, or sounds developed by adding and subtracting paint, and adjusting color and texture. The Pittsburgh-born, New York-based artist commemorates interactions with the natural world, abstractly suggesting tree branches, mountains, leaves and water, and the man-made world that surrounds and intersects it.
Kanazawa grew up in Pennsylvania. She received a BFA in Painting from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and an MA in Art Education. She has shown her work locally and internationally and holds a teaching position as an adjunct instructor at Jamestown Community College in New York.
