The piece depicts a small Gray Fox nestled in the dense green undergrowth, near the Sonoma Coast. My wife, Candice and I, were on one of our hikes and surprised a young silver fox in the underbrush, carrying something small in its mouth...then slipping away into a wall of huckleberry and blackberry bushes - through which, the run-off had created little channels of moist green earth, like burrows, serving as her escape hatch. Naturally it stirred my imagination and elicited many possibilities as to her story. Either way, the beauty and cunning of such a marvelous creature served as the launching point for this piece.
