Of The Plain-
I made this painting while reading Cormac McCarthy’s border trilogy (All the Pretty Horses, The Crossing, Cities of the Plain).
McCarthy has a way a presenting time and place in such a way that feels pristine. Not necessarily the events in his stories but stylistically and technically pristine. The richness of his writing is honey-like, or could be the precision of his craft puts me in mind of something preserved in amber. Either way, colors are similar. So, a longhorn stands beneath an amber-orange sky, one cloud like a thought bubble hovers thoughtless. The wolf and horse in the middle ground (left) are characters from the books. The roller coaster may represent the cyclical, repeating and generally fruitless narrative. The trilogy as a whole is outstanding but I found The Crossing to be particularly good.
