The etymological root for the word "Lunatic" means someone whose temperament is determined by the position of the moon. This drawing is created using graphite and silver, (both substances found on the moon surface) which helps give it its shine. The artist has arranged this diptych of the front and back of the moon to show the faces that are seen and unseen (i.e. near and far), both in the moon and ourselves. However, the graphite and silverleaf reflect at different temperaments. Making the viewer consider their relationship to these moons and what they can perceive in them, as they stand in viewing and make the viewers
themselves: Lunatics.
