The Love of Death and Spring
Inspired by the myth of Hades and Persephone. Hades, the god of the dead, fell in love with Persephone, the goddess of Spring, Persephone. Her mother, Demeter, goddess of fertility and the harvest, searched for her daughter until she found Persephone had been taken to the underworld. She begged Hades to return her daughter to the upper world. However, because Persephone had eaten six pomegranate seeds, the fruit of the underworld, she was forever tied to that place. So for six months, she returns to the upper world, and Demeter's joy fills the world with green plants and warmth. When Persephone returns to the underworld for the other half of the year, Demeter's sorrow gives us cold and barren fields.
