Inspiration: During the pandemic, my artwork has been inspired largely by the things surrounding me in my home--my young kids and their toys, the flowers and insects in our garden, fairy tales, and children's stories. This painting is a portrait of my 2-year-old daughter Rosalie as a pixie, inspired by the depictions of fairies from the Golden Age of Illustration. The artwork of two women in particular from this period influenced this painting: the insect-winged fairies and sprites created by Margaret Tarrant, as well as Rose O'Neil's cherubic Kewpie illustrations. To temper the sweetness of the imagery in this piece, I experimented with blurring and distortion.
